New York, the big apple. It is the place where everyone that has traveled to America has most likely made a stop to see. Which is understandable as it is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Fashion, music, art are abound and there is something for everyone in the nooks and crannies of the entire city. This is not a cheap city though and you have to be prepared to spend some dough if you are planning on being there for a while to see all of the sites. That is the great thing about New York hostels. You can get a bunk in a prime location in the city and still be able to go to the attractions that make this city wonderful and unique. As a traveler it is hard to always know where to stay in relation to what you want to see. The great thing about staying in New York is that they have a gi-norm-us rail/underground system that you can use from almost anywhere.

Some ways to be frugal in NY
Read the admission price list carefully in the museums. Both the Met and the Museum of Natural History are free- but you have to look carefully for the words “suggested admission ” at the bottom
Definitely ride the Staten Island Ferry for free for a close look at the Statue of Liberty- forget the ferry to the Islands unless you are dying to see Ellis Island
Eat where New Yorker eat lunch- the delis or salad bars -you can get a pretty large, healthy meal for under $10 (Whole Foods at Columbus circle- for a delicious picnic in the park- or tables in the building if its raining) And don’t forget to take the escalators as high as you can so you can look at the glass windows down the South Side of the Park.
Lots and lot of free entertainment in the summertime- so check the various websites.
